Enniskillen 3VX 0 v City of Armagh 3XV 10
Match report by Trevor Knipe

City of Armagh Third XV travelled to Enniskillen hoping for a win over the Fermanagh side but with several enforced player changes. With Neil Lutton and Matthew Allen unavailable captain Andrew Brady played Paddy Chapman at prop and Gareth Megaw at Centre while Andrew Winder was captain for the day. Rory McCreesh, Ross Morris and Ryan Morton added to the changes.

In chilly but dry conditions with no wind the match was a story of lost line outs, missed passes, penalties conceded and yellow cards. Fortunately for Armagh both sides were equally guilty in these facets of the game. In a physical and hotly contested encounter it was half an hour before the stalemate was broken when a penalty to Armagh for a high tackle was converted by Andrew Knipe for a precarious three point lead that lasted well into the second half.

The match could easily have swung either way and the only try of the game came from a spirited run by Ross Morris. With his parents, who live in Spain, watching from the sideline Ross evaded the Enniskillen defence to score under the posts. The conversion by Knipe took the score to 10-0 where it remained to the end.

There were mistakes from both sides with a particularly high penalty count. This was further punished by referee Jarvis Traynor with two yellow cards to each side; an aspect of the game that this Armagh side will need to address with important league matches and a Crawford Cup second round tie coming up. The players can all feel justifiably proud of their performance in this match and they will travel to Uprichard Park next week in high spirits to take on Bangor Seconds, a team currently unbeaten in Provincial League 2.
