Barbarians Star is Special Guest at Armagh pre-match lunch
Jacques Van Rooyen recently starred for the Barbarians when they were narrowly defeated 22-31 by the New Zealand All-Blacks. Jacques played tight-head prop for City of Armagh in the
2011-12 season when the club returned to senior status and played in the All-Ireland League.
Following his season with Armagh, Jacques returned to South Africa where he signed a professional contract for the Johannesburg based Golden Lions, playing in the Currie cup Final in 2013 and making his Super 14 debut in 2014 for the Lions. The Lions reached the Super 14 final this season, losing narrowly to New Zealand side, Crusaders.
Jacques presented City of Armagh with his Barbarians jersey which will have pride of place in the clubhouse.
Jacques and his wife, Lisa, spent several days touring around Ireland and after watching Armagh’s historic First Trust Senior Cup semi-final victory on Saturday afternoon, they returned to South Africa.
